- Updates Windows 8 to Windows 8.1 or more.
- Set compatibility mode to a previous version of Windows.
- Set SkipIntro to "On" in the settings file.
- Play the game in windowed mode.
Setting SkipIntro to "On" seems to have the most success for everyone I've went over this with. This appears to be where the client stalls out on a white screen. Some have reported no success in playing full screen on Windows 8 as well so you might just be stuck with windowed mode if the compatibility trick doesn't help.
If all else fails you could also try using Virtual PC software to emulate an older version of Windows. Microsoft has several official types of software for this as well as some decent third-party options. Google them!
Note: Be sure to set the server to "game.eoserv.net" on port 8078. The default installation points to an old server address.
